Lara's Neighbour

May 6, 2026

Lara was a woman in her late twenties with vibrant outlook. She was quite assertive, independent and friendly.

Being a young lady in the neighborhood. One of the elderly man came around one day towards Lara and asked when is she getting hitched? Flabbergasted by his question - she said she won't be getting married and then this oldie guy got on her nerves by saying that a young lady is a BURDEN on the family and getting married removes that burden.

Upon which she affirmed that NO she is an independent lady and doesn't depend on her family so very much for her needs at all. Steadily he kept questioning whether she would be interested in getting married to someone from a separate religion or clan. She was stern and said that she would prefer to only marry within her clan if she ever gets married.

Eventually that oldie guy said that she would come over to her house and speak with her dad to let him know and convince that his daughter shall marry now. Upon which Lara sternly blowed her words on him saying that - He can visit his grand daughters wedding and fulfill all his wishes of visiting a wedding ceremony and all. He shall avoid getting into and stepping into other people's business. And after that his questions ceased.

They met while both were out to put away the garbage while the truck arrived. With their interaction she noticed that the soul of that man also carried a lot of garbage and words kinda got on her nerves.

After ranting the same to her dad, Lara's dad said that, the neighbour didn't deserved a response. Her dad said that, if people start getting into personal details, she isn't compelled to over explain and put them in place all the time. Ignoring them and just saying hmm and all and not giving them more power by indulging in their bait game would be a good move.

Because as a young person many people, from familiar faces to complete strangers, will ask insane questions which shall not shake one up.

That day she noted that sticks and stones could harm her and create chaos and wound her body but other people's comments and questions shall never hinder her beliefs and let her away from being self-assured.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"
